Patrick Senécal was born
in Drummondville in 1967. With an undergrad degree in French
literature from the Université de Montréal, he
has taught literature, film and theatre at Cégep de Drummondville
for several years. An enthusiast for artistic forms that use
suspense, fantasy and horror, he published his first horror novel
in 1994, 5150 rue des Ormes, a book of sustained emotions
and tension. This was followed the next year by Le Passager,
a novel of almost intolerable suspense. In the spring of 1997,
the Théâtre de La Licorne produced his first play :
Les Aventures de l'inspecteur Hector. His third novel, Sur le seuil, published in 1999, was unanimously acclaimed by critics, and subsequently made into a film by Éric Tessier. Sur le seuil, the movie, was one of the major events of the fall 2003 season and the American rights for a remake have been bought by the Miramax group. His fourth and fifth novels, Aliss, a real cult classic, and Les Sept Jours du talion, a remarkably intense dark thriller, were also both very well received by the press as well as the reading public. This has made Patrick Senécal one of the most beloved and read writers in Quebec. |
