Little by little, you lose your footing. That is the art of Patrick Senécal. Very methodically, very smoothly, he makes you slip into a radically different universe.

Once upon a time...

Alice is an inquisitive, resourceful, determined, bright girl from Brossard. At eighteen, driven by her need for self-assertion, she decides it's time for her to leave college and the family nest to live her own life in the place where everything is possible, that is, the big city. After a chance meeting in the subway, Alice lands in a neighbourhood she's never heard of and where people are extremely odd. But that is to be expected, isn't it? She is in Montréal, and in every self-respecting big city there are lots of eccentrics like Charles and Wart, lots of cranks like Andromaque or Chess, and more disturbing people like Bone and Flesh.

So Alice settles in and lives her new life with unshakeable gusto, ready to do anything in order to carve out a place for herself in the sun. But what she doesn't know is that in this neighbourhood she's elected to live in, ready to do anything has a very special meaning...
