The Chromosome Y

"Male. He had looked it up in the dictionary once [...]. Male, it said, from French 'mal' and Latin 'male'. 1. bad, abnormal, inadequate; 2. sub-species of human extinct in 21st century."

Three centuries later, in a small, remote and very inhospitable community, the Isolists, males still exist ! And one of them, Daniel, dreams of leaving the farm to study at the University of Leth.

Meanwhile, in Leth, Bowden feels that her companion, Delacour, a history professor at the university, is neglecting her. To save their relationship, the two women go travelling to the great northern territories. By chance, they discover the Isolist farms and the mutations that seem to affect some members of the sect.

When the woman who rules the Isolists, Highlands, grants Daniel his wish, she has no way of knowing that the young transvestite's destiny will intersect with Delacour's again...
