Les Chroniques de l'Hudres (The Chronicles of Hudres)

There are kingdoms that worship Shir, the male god.
There are kingdoms that worship Shirana, the female goddess.
But only Hudres prays to and honours the sacred Duality !

In the Kingdom of Hudres, King Magne's reign seems to be a golden age : under his command, the army has vanquished Damasia and the barbarous Osjes ; under young strategist Leonte's, a military prodigy, it is posed to crush the fanatical troops of Namarre, and bring about a new era of peace and prosperity.

But returning from his campaign, Magne and his councillors find the kingdom devastated by a plague that has no regard for age or rank. The King soon succumbs to the illness, as does his son Regde, still in swaddling clothes. The councillors have no other choice but to offer the throne to Lyntas, the doubly grieving Queen. But Lyntas is the Damasian King's daughter, a worshipper of Shir who Magne brought back against her will after his victory.

For eleven long years, the Hudresians suffer under the yoke of a foreign Queen who forced them to disavow the cult of the Duality and worship only Shir. Then, one night, the Osjes come down from their mountains. Nothing will ever be the same.

Things are going badly in the Kingdom of Hudres. The Knights of Shirana were able to repel the Osje invasion and save Daffidec, the capital city, but Queen Lyntas still persists in her obsession, which is to eradicate all heretic worshippers of the Duality in her kingdom... including Knights !

But the King's old councillors, who attend the funeral of Elgire, Duke of Sargus, learn of some amazing news : Magne's heir, his son Regde, whom everyone believed dead of the plague, might still be alive ! That is all grand master Leonte needs in order to dare hope again : if the royal child is found, the reign of Lyntas will be over.

But alas, good news and bad news always seem to go hand-in-hand : when they return to the capital, Leonte and his friends find it surrounded by the Damasian army. Even worse, the Queen has redoubled her tyranny, and burning pyres for heretics are appearing everywhere... and Leane, the high priestess of Shirana, will be the first to be sacrificed.

The great priestess Leane. She who, by the will of the goddess Shirana, has become the She-Bear incarnate on Earth, is rotting in a cell, held captive by the Osjes. Despite the death of Vilsin, the High Priest of Shir, she has no hope to escape : the Damasian legions have been ordered to take her, and they are on the verge of attacking.

The grand master Leonte... He who is called the Butcher no longer wants the Duality to change him into a killing machine. But young Regde, King Magne's heir, will need an invincible hero to escape the crutches of the Rishan, the bloodthirsty ruler of Namarre.

The Knights of Shirana... Although they manage to save Fyae from the pyre, they still must escape Queen Lyntas' thirst for revenge : she has issued an edict against their mother house and ordered them eliminated once and for all.

The defenders of Hudres are in desperate straits, but, against all odds, the final combat between the treacherous Queen and the councillors of the King's heir is near... for such has decreed the Duality !
