La Tapisserie de Fionavar
Translation by Élisabeth Vonarburg of
The Fionavar Tapestry

Fionavar Tapestry can be compared only with Tolkien's masterpiece in the breadth and intricacies of its plot, its passionate battle between good and evil and the way the lives and deaths of its characters move the readers... This is a series that lives, a series to cherish and read ; it delights the spirit.

There are five of them, young men and women from Toronto. They are students or young professionals, all rational individuals. But now they find themselves thrown into Fionavar, the Greater Universe of which ours is only a pale reflection !

Despite the protection offered by the mage Silvercloak, they are immediately caught up in the first skirmishes of the war between the forces of Light and Dark. Rakoth Maugrim, the renegade god, has managed to break out of his prison of a thousand years.

The High Kingdom of Brennin, where our five heroes find themselves, is Maugrim's first target. Easy prey, since the old King has not renewed the links woven by his ancestors with the benevolent powers of the Summer Tree. Easy prey unless the king offers himself in sacrifice to the Tree, or someone else does it for him...

L'Arbre de l'Été (The Summer Tree), the first book of the Fionavar Tapestry, the other great classic, along with Lord of the Rings, of modern fantasy.

Rakoth the Destroyer is free from his chains ! His might is going to crush them all ! And if the Fionavar universe is lost, all the others will fall before Maugrim, the Tapestry will be torn and twisted on the Loom of Worlds, never to be mended...

This is the background on which magicians, dwarves, warriors and heroes resuscitated from the oldest myths are called to action - but also five young people from Toronto, each of whom must accomplish a crucial task. Kimberly must awaken the dead from their eternal rest, Dave must carry the magic horn ; Paul, Lord of the Summer Tree, must introduce his own thread in the Tapestry and become the agent of a timeless destiny for Jennifer. Last, Kevin must find his own path in the fight that might save the Weaver's worlds from the Destroyer.

Le Feu vagabond (The Wandering Fire). Book 2 of the Fionavar Tapestry, the other great classic, along with Lord of the Rings, of modern fantasy.

Winter is over. The Summoning Crystal has awakened. There is war somewhere in the north, in the darkness. And a ship is sailing towards the west...

In Fionavar, the Greater World of which our own is only a pale reflection, the power of the renegade god Rakoth Maugrim continues to grow despite the help given to the army of Light under the command of Aileron, the High King of Brennin, by numerous gods and mythical heroes - among which Owein, the Master of the Wild Hunt, and Arthur Pendragon, the Warrior who came back from the dead.

But a last thread must find its place in the Weaver's complex weft : Darien, the son of Jennifer and the Destroyer himself. Never has a living creature, in any universe, been as exactly balanced between Light and Dark.

La Route obscure (The Darkest Road), the dramatic final book of the Fionavar Tapestry, the other great classic, along with Lord of the Rings, of modern fantasy.
