Malacci
Malacci has invented a kind of San-Antonio character
who is taking root in Montréal. And he replaced Bérurier
with a bunch of sidekicks recalling the characters of Michel
Tremblay...

The mutilated corpse of a young woman is found in Montreal.
On her belly, a word written in blood : Sleepy. Léo
Lortie, a patrolman at Station 33, knows what it means :
it is the name of one of the seven dwarves in the story of Snow
White.
In two years, it is the fourth such murder. Lortie himself
found the second corpse, signed Sneezy. But there are seven dwarves
in the tale, and Léo wants to get the psychopath before
his horrible list gets any longer.
Lortie decides to lay a trap for the killer. With the help
of Malacci and Elsa Castillo, a mutual friend, they try to provoke
the murderer by publishing messages for him in the classified
sections of newspapers.
Their plan, of course, does not work as expected, and, as
usual, Malacci finds he's walking a tightrope...

The owner of the newspaper Écho-Matin as an
original idea : he wants to acquire a Toulon newspaper,
Le Mistral, in order to export his methods to France !
In order to evaluate the feasibility of the project, he sends
his two experts, Pouliot and Malacci.
As soon as they arrive, Pouliot goes to work : a young
woman has just been murdered and suspicion is focusing on Kateb
Djaout, an Algerian man who has gone into hiding since the murder.
Taking advantage of this, Pouliot decides to show the Mistral
boss how journalism is done.
Powerless, Malacci can only see the damage being done :
Pouliot's articles awaken the slumbering beast of racism. Those
who rely on xenophobia to achieve their own goals are getting
ready to scramble for the spoils.
Malacci has managed to get in touch with Djaout, and he is
certain the man is innocent. But how can he break the infernal
noose that is tightening around him and the Algerian ?

For once, Malacci is able to take a vacation, in Guadeloupe !
But he must return to Québec on short notice. Chalifoux,
his boss at the Écho-Matin, needs him to act as
a detective ! In fact, Raymond Sancesse, a friend of the
boss and the president of Zeugma Technologies, a leading security
software company, has died accidentally at his cabin under strange
circumstances.
On the pretext of writing an article, Malacci goes hunting
for information at the company headquarters, then questions the
members of the family and the family of Sancerre's partner, David
Barnes. But nothing is easy. Everyone seems to have good reasons
to talk as little as possible, which Malacci finds quite annoying.
And to make his task even harder, a CSIS agent shamelessly
blackmails Malacci to force him to hand over the results of his
investigations - with the blessings of Chalifoux !
The affair is far from simple, and Malacci has a growing feeling
that he's dealing with... a veritable can of worms !
