La Peau blanche
(White Skin)
One of the things I like best about Joël Champetier's
fiction is that he is usually able to blend various registers
quite harmoniously: adventure, scientific information, believable
characters; but he also often manages to add what I would call
the poetic register, a way of actualizing in his writing the
imaginative, and even dreamlike, potential of the elements he
sets in place on other levels.

They are among us...
One evening, in late September, a young Frenchman,
Thierry Guillaumat, who studies Quebec literature in university,
and Henri Dieudonné, his Haitian roommate, decide to go
slumming in Montreal's red light district. This supposedly banal
adventure will soon turn tragic.
They are among us...
In the winter, Thierry falls head over heels for the
strange and magnificent Claire Lefrançois. But their relationship
is far from easy, until Claire tells Thierry her earth-shaking
secret.
They are among us...
Neglected by his friend who is in love, Henri still
has some questions about Claire and her family. Thierry is deeply
shocked by the hypotheses he comes up with. But after investigating
them he too must admit : they are among us, they're women,
and they're deadly !
