Weakened by internal feuds, the provinces of the Palm
have fallen one after the other to Brandin, the sorcerer from
Ygrath, and Alberico, a tyrant from Barbadior. The fate of the
peninsula played itself out at the battle of the Deisa, when
Prince Valentin's army, unable to counter Brandin's sorcery,
was totally destroyed.
Twenty years have passed in the Palm since that fateful
day and Valentin's son, Alessan, is secretly organizing the resistance,
with a handful of men and women still loyal to their true sovereign.
But how can you defeat sorcery when you must hide
disguised as simple troubadours and when the history and the
very name of your country have been erased from memories ?
|
After years of quiet preparations, Alessan, Prince
of Tigana, knows that the time for plotting and secret manoeuvring
is past. Relying on the promise made to him by the king of Quileia,
he can at last come out of the shadows and openly confront those
who robbed him of his land. But unexpected events may disrupt
his plans.
As for Dianora, who saved from certain death the very
man she had sworn to kill, a disturbing meeting in the royal
gardens with a riselka confirms her destiny : she
is the one that will ensure the fall of Brandin of Ygrath...
or the one who will allow him to become the legitimate monarch
of the Palm.
The shattering conclusion of Guy Gabriel Kay's masterpiece.
